This decision is inconsistent with over 10 years of league practice (My experience only dates to 2010.).
The Nats had the ability to bid until the winning bidder declared the win - even though beyond the 24 hour time limit.
Perhaps the rule was changed? I would yield to Kris and Milt on this.

From the rules:
Any contract bid that goes 24 hours without being out-bid will be awarded to the bidding team. After the 24 hours has passed and the bid won the bidding team will have 24 hours from the minute the bid was won to announce the signing of the player. Ex: Cubs win a bid a 10:00am they will have untill 10:00am the following day to announce the signing. Failure to announce the signing will result in the player becoming a FA at the current winning bid and the original winning amount will count against the defaulting team under the Guaranteed FA Won section on the spreadsheet will count for 3 years at the terms by which the player was won. The announcement of the signing must be made in the bidding thread for that player and not in the teams roster moves thread.

I will yiield to Kris and Milt. I wrote your quote 5 years ago.
Somehow, self appointed commissioner Gordon continues to issue pronouncements as if he were the Cobrs League Commissioner. I suppose Gordon is also able to construct his own rules in opposition to 10 plus years of practice.
Again, the bidder needs to declare his winning bid before other bids are excluded. Nats bid should be permitted and Seattle should be permitted to continue the bidding.
I'm thinking the founders felt there is no fun in exclusion.

I apologize to the Nats and Gordon as it appears the rule I documented years ago was incomplete - and should have stated the bid needed to be declared to be final - not just a 24 hour period. I was called out on this as a new player in 2010 by the Commish on a player bid. Apparently my language omission has been strictly applied without the final bid declaration part.
